St Brendan's
U11 Rugby: Season Preview
After a
great season last year all the boys and
coaches are looking forward to repeating
their successes on the field this year.
They've already made a great start,
comfortably progressing in training to
12-a-side rugby with the addition of
second row forwards and a full-back.
There's a lot to learn, but with a team
of dedicated coaches, led by Tony Rigg,
the boys are taking it all in their
stride - and showing the same enthusiasm
that brought them success in 2008-2009,
when they won tournaments at Thornbury,
St Mary's and our Peter Pullin
tournament, ruuners upin the Old
B's tournament (could have won but due
to some players taken off with a stomach
bug, we lost by just one try) . It was
an impressive record, and it's
encouraging for the coaches to see all
the boys back this year - with the
addition of some new faces.
These first
weeks of the season are invaluable for
working on fitness, learning the
additional skills that come with an
expanded team and new positions, and
helping our new boys develop an
understanding of the game. There's a lot
to live up to after last year, but with
the same speedy backs, robust forwards
and great tackling that characterised
last season's performances there's
already a real buzz of excitement about
Sunday morning training - with the first
games just weeks away.
